FAQs

Where are you located?

Louise Consults from the Barkly Health Suites in the heart of Brunswick:

70a Sydney Road Brunswick Victoria, 3056.

There is ample parking along Barkly Street, and 2 hours free parking is available at Barkly Square Shopping Centre - just a short walk away. If you are catching public transport, the clinic is only metres from the no. 19 tram and a few minutes walk from Jewel Station.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No — you can self-refer.

However, if you’d like to access Medicare rebates under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will need a referral from a GP or psychiatrist.

Louise also supports participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) whereby your session fees may be covered by your NDIS plan.

How much does it cost to see a clinical psychologist?

The cost to engage a clinical psychologist varies according to the referral. If you have been referred by your GP or private psychiatrist you will be eligible for a rebate of $145.25 for up to ten sessions per calendar year for the 2025-2026 financial year.

What can I expect in my first session?

Your first appointment is a chance for us to understand what brings you to therapy and what you hope to change or explore. We’ll talk about your history, current concerns, and any goals you have. There’s no pressure to share anything before you feel ready — we move at your pace.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on the nature and duration of your concerns. Some people notice meaningful shifts within a short-term framework, while others benefit from longer-term therapy that allows for deeper, more integrated work. We’ll review progress together as therapy unfolds.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth appointments are available for clients who prefer remote access, live outside Melbourne, or require flexibility in their care. Many clients find this option just as effective as in-person therapy.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is protected by legal and ethical guidelines. There are rare situations where psychologists must act to ensure safety — for example, if someone is at risk of harm — and we will always discuss this with you whenever possible.

What is your cancellation policy?

To protect limited appointment times, cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a 50 percent fee charge. This allows us to offer the time to another client who may be waiting for support.

Do you work with complex trauma and personality disorder?

Yes — this is a key area of my clinical expertise. I provide trauma-informed, formulation-driven treatment that values context, adaption, and nervous system safety. Labels do not define care — your story and your strengths do.

How do I know if we are the right fit?

The therapeutic relationship is central to good outcomes. If after a first session (or a few) we decide that another clinician or approach may better suit your needs, I will support you with a warm handover to ensure continuity of care.

Can I bring someone to the first appointment?

You are welcome to discuss this with me beforehand. Some clients feel supported having a trusted person accompany them initially; others prefer privacy from the outset. We will do what feels right for you.

What ages do you work with?

I currently work with adults (18+), particularly those seeking support for trauma recovery, emotional dysregulation, relationship patterns, identity and self-worth.

What if I feel unsure or nervous about starting therapy?

This is very common.

You are welcome to reach out with any questions. A brief phone consultation can help you decide whether we’re the right fit - there is no pressure or obligation.
